About the Sprint

Telekinesis,

or the closest we’ll get to it.

We have all looked at brain computer interfaces at least once and seen the future. You think something, and that thought moves an object. A lot of us have also been overwhelmed by it.

BCI Build Sprint is an initiative by the Brain Computer Interface Club at USF to introduce students to the world of EEG and BCI in a low-stakes, 12-hour mini-hackathon. You focus on building with state-of-the-art devices. We help you bridge the gap.

You + 12 hours

You bring the ideas and the solution. We’ll help you make the magic happen, then you present to our panel of judges.

Real EEG devices

Build with state-of-the-art headsets and read real brain signals. Club mentors help you go from raw waves to a working idea.

No experience required

Never touched EEG? Perfect. The sprint is built to be low-stakes and beginner-friendly from the first minute.

One full turn of the clock.

Questions, answered

Do I need any experience?

No. The sprint is made for students meeting EEG and BCI for the first time. You’ll have devices on hand and club members to help you bridge the gap.

What are hackathon tracks?

Tracks are themes you can build around, each with its own prize. When you submit, you pick the track that best fits your project, and it’s judged alongside the other projects in that track. This year’s tracks are Biotech and Recreation. Sponsored tracks will be announced during the opening ceremony.

Do I need a team?

Teams can have up to 4 people. Coming solo is completely fine: we’ll help you find teammates at kickoff, or you can build on your own.

What should I bring?

Your laptop, charger and student ID. A water bottle and a light jacket are a good idea for a long day. We’ll provide the hardware and mentors.

Does it cost anything?

Nothing. The BCI Build Sprint is free for all students.
